Stay Awake to Fulfil

                                                Dreams

"Dream is not that which you see while sleeping. It is something that does not let you sleep. And
           thoughts result in action."

                                                                                            — Abdul Kalam
As a child I too had a dream. As I grew up, I yearned for this fantasy
                                       to become reality.
My mother, a good interior decorator, had done up my large room,
with lime green furniture. My favourite place in the room was a big
writing table which overlooked a mango tree and a small quiet lane.
Those days children did not busy themselves with mobiles and video
games. The focus was on studies and spending time with the family.
I was in Mumbai and cousins were all outstation.
But for the fact that my father, an avid reader gifted me the love
of reading and books, I would've been a lonely child.
For one of my birthdays, dad presented me 'The Reader's Digest
Volumes of Condensed Classics.' I read many books from this collection — Mutiny on the
Bounty, Pride and Prejudice, A Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, Jane Eyre and many more.
I would absorb my mind in reading books, sitting on the wide window sill of my father's library,
with a view of the beautifully kept green garden. My reading transported me to many faraway
lands where I met many interesting personalities.
I was into throw ball and riding too.

But my greatest dream was to write. I would sit on my writing table with a nice notebook and
I still remember that beautiful pelican fountain pen — a black and green with a touch of gold,
my parents had bought back for me from one of their visits abroad. I treasure this pen till
today. Not knowing quite what to write, I would ink the paper with some excerpts from books
I particularly liked. And a few poems too.
Today, I have fulfilled my dream when a friend introduced me to a writing workshop and a
writers' group — Zen Pens. My mentor also introduced us to write daily sentences and via my
friend, the editor of this magazine, Swamini Aaradhanananda, I reach out to you kids. I am
also writing a book of short stories which I hope will touch
lives of both adults and children.

My young dreamers, work hard towards your dreams and
then you will see, that the doors will open for you in utterly
