The Maker’s Miracle!
Seated on his throne in the heavens, the Maker (God) watched over the universe he had
created.
“All’s well today,” declared the Maker to his
assistant standing next to him.
“What a universe you have created, Sire!”
said the assistant, taking in the stunning view
of the cosmos in front of him. He pointed to
something blue-green and said, “But this, Sir,
is the most beautiful of all your work. The
Earth!”
The Maker beamed. “It is unique. I’ve given
the Earth oceans, mountains, forests, deserts,
grasslands and the most special of all – the
living beings that inhabit them, especially
the humans! They are my best work yet!”
“Umm. Yes, Sire,” muttered the assistant, uncertainly.
The Maker frowned. “What’s the matter? You don’t think my humans are exceptional?”
The assistant coughed nervously. “Well, Sire, I will be honest. I see the humans unclothed, foraging
for food, hunting with their bare hands and eating raw flesh. For all practical purposes, they
seem like your previous work, the apes. So, forgive me if I don’t see anything special in them.”
The Maker nodded. “Yes, they are animals – now. But in the future, the humans will distinguish
themselves from animals. In fact, they will be the most advanced, extraordinary creatures in
the universe.”
Seeing the incredulous look on the assistant’s face, the Maker said, “You don’t believe me?
Come, hold my hand. I will let you take a peek into the future.”
The assistant held the Maker's hand. And in a flash, a different world appeared in front of him
where he saw a group of humans clothed in animal skins, making tools with stone.
“These humans are more evolved than the humans you saw earlier from heaven,” said the
Maker. “They have figured out that using tools will make life easy. They don’t know this yet, but
making tools is their first step towards art. Right now, their ‘art’ is purely functional.”
The Maker waved a hand and they were in a new place a few thousand years later where the
humans wore beads and bone necklaces and had even painted their bodies. “They are wearing
all this to distinguish themselves from others. The paint also helps them camouflage themselves.
Soon they’ll start wearing these ornaments because they like how they look,” said the Maker.
