He then took the assistant to another point in the future where humans were seen drawing
patterns on cave walls. “Finally!” said the Maker, excitedly. “They have begun to see art outside
of their own bodies. Their brains now have evolved enough to start imagining designs and
patterns and to reproduce them on surfaces. They are using art as a form of expression now.”
Further in his journey into the future, the spellbound assistant saw the humans begin to sculpt.
He saw them learn to speak. Slowly, he saw them create language. He observed how the
humans began to embellish their god-given earth with not just practical things but also those
pleasing to their senses. They wanted to see, hear, and feel new things. They began to admire
beauty. Creativity flourished!
“They are now inventing new forms of art!” exclaimed the assistant.
He saw poetry and literature
grow naturally as humans got
comfortable with language. Music
originated and so did dance. They
wrote plays and enacted them.
They used their minds to visualise
and build homes, palaces, forts,
fountains, gardens, and what not.
“Let’s stop here. Tell me, Assistant,
do you still think the humans are
like apes?” asked the Maker.
The assistant bowed down to the
Maker. “I was wrong, Sire. The
humans are remarkable! Unlike
other living creatures, they are
creators. They are true artists!
What did you do differently when you made them?”
“I’ve given them the most complex brains that can absorb, process, grow and evolve. And I’ve
given them the capacity to feel,” said the Maker, touching his heart.
The assistant smiled. “Sire, you’ve given this species the gift to visualise and bring their ideas
to life! You’ve given them the power to create art. Aren’t you afraid they might upstage you?”
The Maker guffawed. “The humans might be master-creators. But don’t forget. I am the artist
who made them!”
