"The day is observed on the same day as New Year so that families can commemorate the
event by engaging in activities that promote togetherness and oneness such as a family outing
or watching a movie or simply by spending some time together by cooking a ‘unity’ meal.”
Soham pondered, “Mom, could it also include planting a family garden or going camping or
hiking or even playing a few games?”
“Of course, Brilliant! These are creative and useful ideas!”

Seema, the maid, joined in with a greeting, “Wish you all a very beautiful year ahead.”
Dad contemplated, “Do you know, Soham, that Seemaji has been helping us with the household
chores way before you were even born? She took care of your mom and you when you were a
newborn baby. Don’t you think we must show our gratitude to her on Global Family Day?”
Handing over a scribbled piece of paper to the maid, Soham said, “Mausi, I have made a list
of names that you needed for the naming ceremony of your grandchild. Please check.” Seema
examined the paper and remarked, “Oh! Such a big
list of names. Thank you, Soham, so thoughtful of
you.”

“Mausi, today is Global Family Day, can you
accompany us to the farmhouse for the celebration?
You are a part of our family.”
Seema’s eyes welled up in tears, “I will help your mom
in packing some snacks and refreshments for the
get-together,” and she went into the kitchen.
Mom observed, “Soham, I guess you now understand
the true meaning of Global Family Day.”

“Yes, I believe that we are indeed a global family.
Thank you for the awareness.”

Dad added, “It truly signifies one’s strong bond
with the people of the globe to form Vasudhaiva
Kutumbakam.”
